Do you realise that you will not act in a way that is inconsistent with what you believe?
For example, if you believe something is a waste of money, then you’re not going to buy it.
But this also is the case for what you believe about YOU.
In other words, if you believe you’re competent, capable, focused and optimistic, then you will confidently pursue your personal and professional goals, and you won’t let anything stand in your way.
If you don’t believe you’re good enough, smart enough, resilient enough
If you believe you never do things right
If you believe you can’t communicate well
If you believe you suck at relationships….
…then you are the victim of self-limiting beliefs, and these beliefs will cause you to self-sabotage your attempts to move forward at every turn.
How do you overcome these self-limiting beliefs?
It really comes down to one simple yet powerful principle:
WHAT YOU FOCUS ON IS WHAT YOU GET.
Or to put it another way: what you focus on you get more of.
So, if you focus on what you don’t want or don’t like, you will get more of the things you really don’t want in your life.
The more you put yourself down; tell yourself you can’t do it, the more you give airtime to those voices and the louder those voices will get.
However, the reverse is also true: if you focus on what you DO want; and what you WANT to believe about yourself, that will expand in your mind.
You see, these self-limiting beliefs have been formed by things that happened to you and things that have been said to you in the past.
Did you know a young Walt Disney was fired as a newspaper journalist because he “lacked imagination.”
A young Oprah Winfrey was demoted as a TV anchor because she “wasn’t suited to television”.
Imagine if they had let those voices rule their lives…
What voices are you giving air time?
What voices are you allowing to live rent-free in your head?
Do you want to be defined by your past, or inspired by your present and your future?
Do you want to remain stuck in your old story, or do you want to create a new story? A story of hope, purpose and fulfilment!

What do you need to believe about yourself to achieve what you want to believe?
Can I suggest you take some paper and write down:
These are what we call EMPOWERING beliefs.
Make a long list
Write them down
Say them out loud
Look at yourself in the mirror and say them again and again and again.
Ask yourself: what is the evidence in my life that I am already aligning with these beliefs?
Because……what we focus on we get more of.
So, if you choose to stop focusing on the self-limiting beliefs and the negative self-talk, and choose to focus on these empowering beliefs, persist in focusing on them and the positive self-talk that goes with them, the neural pathways in your brain and your actions will begin to align with them.
You will begin to confidently pursue your goals, not only because you believe you can achieve them, but more importantly, because you believe in yourself.
